Sharon Acerra Barner, 69, of Kalamazoo, formerly of South Haven died on February 11 at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo, MI. She was born on September 22, 1943 to Joseph and Marie (Hinz) Acerra in Chicago, IL. She married Neele Barner on October 2, 1993. Sharon was employed at Social Security for 43 years. She loved baking and studying family genealogy. Sharon was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in South Haven.

She is preceded in death by her parents and a brother – Gene Acerra.

Sharon is survived by her husband, Neele of Kalamazoo, MI, her daughter – Heather Martell of Kalamazoo, MI and step-son – Gary Barner of South Haven, MI. Seven grandchildren – Elizabeth Valle, Anthony Martell, Mercedes Martell, Alexandria Martell, Frank Martell, Grace Barner and Andrew Barner. Her brothers – Larry (Karen) Acerra and Roger (Kathy) Acerra both of South Haven, MI. Sister –in- law – Cynthia Acerra of South Haven, MI. Also many nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be on Friday, February 15, at 11:00 AM at Filbrandt Family Funeral Home with Pastor Clint Rogas officiating. Burial will take place at Chambers Cemetery, Geneva Township. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Paul Lutheran School or to Michigan Lutheran High School.
