Montrose -- Louva Brown Stramel passed away Sunday morning, June 6, 2004, at the Montrose Memorial Hospital at the age of 92.

Louva May McKee Nelson was born in Sarcoxie, Mo., on Nov. 5, 1911. The daughter of Clive and Alice (Troutman) Nelson, she moved to Montrose with her family at an early age. She received her education in the Montrose schools.

Louva was united in marriage with Alfred W. Brown on July 14, 1928, in Delta, Colo. Alfred preceded Louva in death in October of 1970. Louva and Bernard Stramel were married on Sept. 1, 1987, in Truth or Consequences, N.M.

Louva was employed at Hesteds and the Montrose Credit Bureau for many years. She was a longtime member of the Christian Church and the Columbine Club. Louva loved to crochet and knit and made each of her family members an afghan. She enjoyed playing the piano for dances in Montrose and for the senior activities in Truth or Consequences, N.M. Louva was never happier than when surrounded by her family and enjoyed hearing of the achievements of her grandchildren.

Surviving is her husband, Bernard Stramel, of Montrose.

She is also survived by her three sons: Gale (Sue) Brown, of Delta, Colo.; Wayne (Beverly) Brown, of Montrose, Colo.; Darel (Jane) Brown, of Olathe, Colo.; three daughters: Theora (Phil) Robinson, of Gunnison, Colo.; Lynn (Frank) Dunn, of Spring Valley, Calif.; Lorell (Larry) Cotten, of Monte Vista, Colo.; 16 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and her first husband, Louva was also preceded in death by one son, Charles Wesley Brown; one daughter, Alice Winifred Brown; three sisters: Loraine Hamm, Lois Morlang, Melville Hagan; and an infant brother, George Nelson.

Visitation for family and friends is scheduled for Wednesday, June 9, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Crippin Funeral Home, using the front entrance to the funeral home. A funeral service in celebration of Louva's life will be officiated on Thursday, June 10, at 1 p.m. at the Montrose Christian Church, 2351 Sunnyside Rd., in Montrose. Interment will follow in the Grand View Cemetery, west of Montrose.
