The son of Christian & Susannah (Pfoutz) Grubb, he married Elizabeth Charles February 9, 1843, in Buffalo Township, Perry County, Pennsylvania, and fathered Emily (b. @1845), Uriah (b. @1847), Catharine (b. 1849), Christian (b. 12/20/53), Elizabeth V. (b. 04/??/56), and Ida (b. @1859). In 1860, he was a farmer living in Liverpool Township, Perry County, and stood 5' 9" tall with dark hair and blue eyes.

A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in Harrisburg August 26, 1864, mustered into federal service there September 3 as a private with Co. I, 208th Pennsylvania Infantry, but died of disease in 3rd Division, 9th Corps hospital, near Petersburg, Virginia.
