ABBEVILLE- Funeral services for Mrs. Myrtle DeVillier Daspit, 85, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Theresa Catholic Church here with burial in St. Mary Catholic Church Mausoleum.

Mrs. Daspit, a resident , of Austin, Texas, a native of Abbeville and a former resident of Opelousas, died Thursday, Nov. 27, 2003, in Austin, Texas. She was a graduate of Port Barre High School and Hotel Dieu School of Nursing in New Orleans. Mrs. Daspit worked 25 plus years in nursing until her retirement in Abbeville. She received her 50-year pin with the Catholic Daughters of Abbeville.

Survivors include: a son, John H. Daspit Jr. and wife Linda of Houston, Texas, and children Johnny, David, Stephan and Jennifer; daughter and family, Joycelyn D. Fontenot and husband James of Opelousas, and children Andre Knapp , and husband Ryan of Mandeville, James R. Fontenot II and wife Candiace of Sulphur and child Taylor, and Army Staff Sgt. Allen John Fontenot and wife Christina of Grove Town, Ga., and children Hunter, Broc and A.J.; daughter and family, Sandra D. Pittman and husband Gary of Austin, Texas, and children Gary Pittman Jr. and wife Sue, Elise P. Koonce and husband Shawn and Elizabeth P. Gates and husband Eric, and children Ethan, Oakley and Marie, all of Austin, Texas; two sisters, Gertrude Beryl DeVillier Fontenot and Rebecca DeVillier Sylvester and husband Berchman, all of Opelousas; and six brothers, John Lincoln DeVillier and wife Mary Anne of Carrolton, Ga., John DeVillier of Las Vegas, Nev., Joseph Claude DeVillier and wife Frances of Castro Valley, Calif., Adam Floyd DeVillier of Kenner, James Richard DeVillier and wife Carrie of Houston, Texas, and Dr. Albert Berchman DeVillier, MD, and wife Wendy of Poplarville, Miss.

Mrs. Daspit was preceded in death by her husband, John H. Daspit Sr.; her parents, Cleveland and Elizabeth Wyble DeVillier; two brothers, Leon Fabian and Leo Sherman DeVillier; and two sisters, Shirley D. Sprotti and Anna Lee D. Vidrine.

Visiting hours will be observed from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday and from 8 a.m. Monday until time of services. A rosary will be recited at 6 p.m.
