Mr. George Hollie Beavers, 84, of Romulus, Mich., passed away Sept. 2, 2009, in Romulus.
Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 5, 2009, at Lone Cedar Church of Christ, followed by services at 2 p.m., with Tim Grigsby officiating. Burial will follow in Antioch Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Bennie Beavers, Jerry Irvine and nephews.
He was born in Lexington, Ala., to Bennie Price and Lola Hamner Beavers, who preceded him in death. Mr. Beavers was a member of the Church of Christ and retired after 30 years service with General Motors Corp. He proudly served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army, 357th Infantry Regiment, Company H. He was in the Invasion of Normandy by the Allied Forces and was twice captured by the Germans and spent several months in a prisoner of war camp.
Mr. Beavers is survived by his wife of 51 years, Betty McMaster Beavers; two sons, Jimmy Beavers and friend, Michaleo Zapico, Romulus, Mich., and Bennie Beavers and wife, Shelia, Lima, Ohio; three grandchildren, Jennifer Beavers, Chicago, Ill., Bennie and Stephanie Beavers, Lima, Ohio; eight sisters, Dorothy McGee, Savannah, Tenn., Ruth Hawn (Vic), Saltillo, Miss., Jessie Simpson (Mitchell), Ann Cooper, Frances Harrison, all of Killen, Ala., Laurie Johnson (Joe), Tullahoma, Tenn., Mary Grigsby (Henry), and Margaret Allen, all of Florence, Ala.; numerous nieces and nephews.
