Last Rites Held for Martin Lewer
Martin F. Lewer, 85, of Waseca, passed away Saturday morning at Waseca Memorial hospital. The son of Henry Lewer and his wife, Helena Scholljegerdes, he was born in Woodville township, July 3, 1888. He attended rural schools.
On May 2, 1918, he married Marie Priebe. They farmed in Woodville township until 1947, when they retired and moved to Waseca. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran church, where he served as a trustee for a number of years. He served as third ward alderman on the city council for four years; eight years as county commissioner; 27 years as chairman of Woodville township, 24 years as director of Waseca cooperative creamery and 20 years as director of Farmers National Bank, Waseca.
Survivors include his wife, two sons, Orlin of rural New Richland and Donald of rural Waseca; seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren and a brother, Ewald Lewer of Waseca.
Funeral services were Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran church, Waseca with the Rev. Edgar H. Eifert officiating. Interment was in Woodville cemetery. Pallbearers were Dale Kampen, James, Craig, Alan, Brian and Randy Lewer, all grandsons. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Henry and John.
