He volunteered March 23, 1863, in the Confederate Army - Company C 41st TN Infantry, which became part of the 3rd Consolidated Regiment TN Infantry abt Apr. 9, 1863, and was promoted Oct. 31, 1863 from Corporal to 4 Corporal.

Buried in City View (OLD City) Cemetery, Union City TN.

Married to Margret Ann Hairston daughter of Manley Madison and Martha "Patsy" Koonce Hairston of Lincoln County TN. (Note: Margret Ann married James Newton Cannon July 1880.)
