He was married to Mary Parker on Sep. 25, 1850, in Wilson County, Tennessee. She was the daughter of William Parker (b. July 1, 1808 in Smith Co., TN., d. Dec. 31, 1879, in Jefferson Co., IL.) and his 1st wife Clarissa (b. about 1807 in Virginia or Tennessee).
They were not blessed with any children of their own but they did adopt at least one child, as they were recorded on the 1880 census of Grayson County, Texas, with an adopted 13 year old son who was listed on the census as "J. M. KEYLER" and his place of birth was given as Illinois and the P.O.B. of both his mother and his father was also given as Illinois. It was also indicated on the census that he was adopted.
