JOPLIN — Doris Jean DeGraff, age 70, of Joplin, Mo., passed away early Saturday, Dec. 19, 2009, at the Joplin Health Care facility following a short illness.

Jeannie was born on Sept. 27, 1939, in Carthage, Mo., the daughter of Everett Dean and Almeda (Brown) Wheeler. She was a lifetime Joplin area resident and worked as a nurses' assistant at St. John's Regional Medical Center for many years before retiring in 1999. She attended the Oak Grove Baptist Church.

Jeannie married Julius Lincoln DeGraff in Joplin in 1959; he preceded her in death in October of 1986.

Doris is survived by two sons, Larry DeGraff and his wife, Gina, of Lees Summit, Mo., and Terry DeGraff and his wife, Carol, of Oceanside, Calif.; one sister, Beverly Martin and her husband, Phil, of Joplin; two stepbrothers, John Moore, of Tulsa, and Wayland Moore, of Carthage; one stepsister, Vera Marshall, of Apple Valley, Calif.; and five grandchildren, Alyssa, Joel, Brennan, Annie and Cynthia. She was also preceded by her stepfather, Alpha James Moore; and her daughter, Shannon DeGraff Lockwood.

Funeral services have been scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 22, at 11 a.m. at the Mason-Woodard Chapel. The Reverend Johnny Wilkins will officiate. A visitation will immediately follow the service. Jeannie is to be taken for cremation following all services.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Chapel.
