Mary Irene Balch, 91, of New Kensington, died Sunday, Feb. 3, 2013, in her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born Jan. 1, 1922, in Clarksville, Pa., a daughter of the late John and Susie Duray Slosarik. She was a member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, New Kensington. Mary was an avid Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers fan. She looked forward to making Sunday dinners, family get-togethers, and making nut rolls and cabbage rolls. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Alexander George Balch; and five siblings, John, Sue, Helen, Ann and Betty. She is survived by two daughters, Jacqueline (Clifford) Overly, of Lower Burrell, and Susan Nix (fiance, Richard Harbaugh), of Leechburg; a son, George J. (Sandra) Balch, of Lower Burrell; two sisters, Julia and Violet; eight grandchildren, Robin (Greg) McCreight, Monica (Anthony) Pallone, Colette (Scott) Miller, Joelle Overly, Dana (Phil) Marra, Georgie (Shannon) Balch, Cameron (Jennifer) Nix and Jonathan (Tiffany) Nix; 16 great-grandchildren, Jeffrey, Kellie, Michael, Ashley, A.J., Madison, Zachary, Brittany, Phillip, Anthony, Olivia, Tommy, Hannah, Kendall, Cole and Avery; and three great-great-grandchildren, Kyla and twins, Emma and Pressley. Family and friends will be received from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013, in the JOSEPH J. CARDARO FUNERAL HOME, A Service Oriented Funeral Home, 1125 Kenneth Ave., New Kensington, 724-337-3325. Prayer of transfer will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, in the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, New Kensington.
