Thursia June Poindexter was born June 18, 1916 in Roll, Oklahoma to Katie Fay and Kay Holt. She passed away November 22, 2005 at Elk City, Oklahoma at the age of 89 years, 4 months and 14 days.
Thrusia grew up in the Crawford community and was married to Warren Colby Poindexter on March 2, 1938 in Cheyenne, Oklahoma. They lived in the Durham community. After Warren passed away Thurisa moved with her son, Charles to Cheyenne in 1966 to make her home. Thursia was a true homemaker and loved sewing, cooking and gardening while taking care of her family.
She was a member of the United Pentecostal Church, Allison, Texas for a number of years. Thurisa loved to read her Bible and with her sister, Nellie they sang in the church at Allison.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and 1 son, Harlton Poindexter, 2 brothers, and 3 sisters.
Survivors include one daughter, Delores Poindexter, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; two sons, Larry and Jolene Poindexter, Baldwin Park, California and Charles and Linda Poindexter, Elk City, Oklahoma; five grandchildren, Christine, Lisa, Robert, Rusty and Ryan; five great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services were held Saturday, November 5, 2005 at 2:3 p.m. at Whinery-Savage Chapel officiated by Fred Johnson and Jimmy Wallace. Burial was at Silent Home Cemetery, Roll, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma under the direction of Whinery-Savage Funeral Service, Elk City.
