Lori Holzworth Acton of London, Kentucky passed on January 28, 2013. Lori, the eldest of 4 siblings, daughter of Carol Holzworth and the late Bernard Holzworth, grew up in Sterling, Colorado. She graduated in the class of 1975 from Sterling High School. She attended the University of Northern Colorado, completed her bachelor's degree at Eastern Kentucky University and earned a Master of Library Science from Vanderbilt University.

Since first serving as director of the Laurel County Public Library in 1985 and overseeing the expansion of the library from the small building on 4th Street to the first class facility that the community has utilized since 2004, Lori had committed her career to a life of public service. On a most fundamental level, Lori believed that both education and public involvement form the foundation of community. Her commitment to bettering society through education and active participation was unparalleled. As an active member of the Rotary Club, she was a Paul Harris Fellow and an Assistant Governor for District 6740. She was on the Board of Directors of the St. Joseph Hospital–London foundation. Lori will be remembered for her outward reaching personality, leadership traits and goal oriented management style and, of course, her infamous and contagious laugh.

Lori's passing leaves behind her husband, Larry Acton, and her four, in Lori's words, "heart" children: Wayne, Lance, Sarah and Peter. She is also survived by her mother, Carol Holzworth of Sterling, CO, sisters Jennifer Hays of Brighton, CO and Brenda Holzworth of Scottsdale, AZ and one brother Brian Holzworth and wife Amy of Fort Collins, CO.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Laurel County Public Library will be most welcomed. Please read a book to a child in memory of Lori.
