Floyd E. Nutty age 92 a Connersville native and longtime resident passed away Saturday January 5, 2013 at the Emergency Room of Fayette Regional Health System. He was born November 29, 1920 in the Alquina Community of Fayette County, the son of the late Frank A. Nutty and Mary A. Miller Nutty. He is a 1938 graduate of Alquina High School. Floyd served in the U.S. Army in the Corps of Combat Engineers from 1942 until 1945. He served in the Pacific, taking part in three island invasions, the Marshall Islands, the Ryukyu Islands and the Mariana Islands. His unit was responsible for building camp installations and airfields. Floyd is a member of the Harrisburg Union Church where he was currently serving as chairman of the deacons. . He is a member of the American Legion where he served as commander for 5 terms, the Elks Lodge, the Eagles Lodge and the Connersville Optimist Club. He loved the Optimist Club and was active until his health no longer permitted it. He had been employed for over 20 years with the Connersville Paint Company,serving as secretary treasurer until his retirement in 1990. Prior to that he was employed with McQuay Norris, American Kitchens and Avco. Floyd was a rock collector and was active in the Rock and Gem Club in Richmond. He was a friendly person who loved people and loved life. He is survived by his son Phillip E. Nutty of Shelbyville; 2 brothers Gordon Nutty, Indianapolis; and Carl Nutty, Connersville; 2 sisters Maxine Wysong, Connersville; and Marjorie Harvey, Connersville; Floyd was also loved by his many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife Ione Ochiltree Nutty to whom he was married May 14, 1949 at the Central Christian Church. She passed away October 31, 2005. He is also preceded in death by 5 brothers, Arthur, Houston, Virgil, Luther and James Nutty and 2 sisters, Ruth Brown and Isabelle Broaddus. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday January 9, 2013 at 10:00 A.M. at Urban-Winkler Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Lowry and Rev. John Stewart officiating. Burial will be in Dale Cemetery where military graveside honors will be conducted by the Fayette County Veterans Council. Friends may visit at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4-8 P.M. Memorial contributions may be made in honor of Floyd to the Harrisburg Union Church or the Connersville Optimist Club.
