======
In the book 'Wherever The Firing Line Extends' by Ron McGreevy he writes:
'A year after the Rising, Eamon de Valera wrote to Michael Malone's mother Mary from Lewes jail, where he was imprisoned after the Rising. She had sent him shamrock for
St. Patrick's Day:
What gift could be so affecting as that of a box of shamrocks from an Irish mother on behalf of her patriot son, to a comrade whose duty it was to bide him take that post, in the defence of which he so gloriously fell. No wonder that Ireland is still unconquered....Michael did deeds which will be on record for ever- accomplished in a few hours what other men fail to accomplish in a life full of years. This Easter from his place in paradise he sees us still struggling through this valley of tears. His fate is one for envy no sorrow.'
