Sue Johnson Chesshir of Floydada, after fighting a short but courageous battle with cancer, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Friday, May 25, 2007.

Sue was born in Luxora, Ark., to Doc and Juanita Boleyn, on March 27, 1940. In 1948 her loving parents, Dewitt Talmage and Eula Mae, (Daddy Johnson and Momma Johnson), brought her into their home and raised her before officially adopting her in 1957.

Sue was a member of the church of Christ. Her home congregation was West College and Third in Lockney.

She attended schools in Three Way and Bula. On August 15, 1958 she married Donald Rhea Chesshir in Bula. They lived in numerous communities around west Texas until settling in Floydada in 1973.

Sue worked for the Floydada Independent School District from 1976 until retiring in 2003. She served the schools as Duncan Elementary cafeteria manager, was a migrant clerk, PEIMS clerk, office secretary and bus driver. After her retirement, she continued part-time as the speech therapist secretary and bus driver until 2007.

Sue was a member of the Whirlwind Sams where she held several offices, served on the board of the Floydada Senior Citizens, served as president of the Women's Chamber of Commerce and for many years oversaw the Floyd County Stock Show concessions for both Floydada FFA and Floyd County 4-H.

Besides her beloved husband, Don, the pride and greatest joy in her life were her children, grandchildren and great-granddaughter and she was eagerly looking forward to the birth of additional great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Donald Rhea; two daughters and their husbands, Donna and Charles Keaton of Lockney and Tammie and Bobby Shuping of Hale Center; one son and his wife, Don Garner and Christina Chesshir of Floydada; grandchildren, Charissa and Cory Golden of Brownfield, Rusty Keaton of Lubbock, Kami Keaton of Lubbock, Zach and Kristi Logan of Floydada, Zane and Cammy Logan of Canyon, Michael Shuping of Hale Center, Tyler Chesshir, Dillon Chesshir and Syndi Chesshir, all of Floydada; and one great-granddaughter, Taryn Golden of Brownfield.

She is also survived by three brothers and their wives, James and Sandra Boleyn of Littlefield, Buddy and Gwen Boleyn of Amherst and Big Boy and Cuc Boleyn of Nacogdoches; one sister and her husband, Ruby and Bill Isenberg of Denver City; and several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by both sets of parents and two infant twin brothers.

Her last wish was to donate her body to the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. Memorial services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, June 2nd, at the West College and Third Church of Christ in Lockney, under the direction of Freeman-Abell Funeral Directors. The family will welcome visitors at any time. Memorials can be sent to the Ronald McDonald House of Lubbock or the American Cancer Society.
