Son of Hayden "Aden" B. Ice and Elizabeth "Peggy" Shaffer. Ison married Rebecca Ann Price, a daughter of John Price and Sarah Starkey, on September 28, 1865 in Wetzel Co., WV. The marriage ceremony was performed by A. Holbert.
Ison Ice hired his neighbor Jacob Cain to clear brush from the hill above his family's log cabin in Wetzel County West Virginia Jacob put the brush in a pile to light the fire and found a large rock to put on top to keep it from blowing away. After he went home for dinner, the wind caused the rock to roll down the hill and smash into the slab kitchen of the family's log cabin, killing Ison and his granddaughter Pearl. Pearl ended up being hurled through the air by the impact of the rock and crashed into her pregnant Aunt Ida, who suffered a neck injury that remained with her the rest of her life.
