DEATH OF CHARLES AHLBORN
The rather sudden death yesterday of Chalres Ahlborn, one of Wilkes-Barre's best known residents, will cause deep regret. He was not only well known but popular with many.
Mr. Ahlborn had been ailing with Bright's disease of the kidneys for some time, although he was able to be about. On Monday evening eh was feeling fairly well and spent the earlier hours in the society of friends. He retired about 11 o'clock apparently in as good health as usual, but soon after the family were attracted by groans of distress and hurried to his room. Physicians were summoned and everything was done to prolong life, but he died at 5 o'clock yesterday morning at the home of his niece, Mrs. Frank Bauer, 144 Northampton street.
Mr. Ahlborn never married. He was born in Schney, Bavaria, and was in his 54th year. He was a son of Henry Ahlborn, and the youngest of a family of nine children, of whom survive: Henry Ahlborn of Brooklyn, Mrs. John Kleinert and Mrs. Laura Hilbert of Newark, N. J.; Mrs. Aurelia Gaertner and the misses Albertina and Georgina Ahlborn of Schney, Germany.
Deceased came to America in 1867 and resided here continually since. He embarked in the soap business with his brother, the late Fred Ahlborn, at 82 South Canal street, and for a number of years he has been sole owner, doing an extensive business. He was also one of the executors of the estate of his brother, Fred Ahlborn.
Deceased was a member of Lodge No. 61, F. and A. M. and was formerly a member of several German societies in this city. For several years past he traveled extensively in Germany and Europe. His last trip was an extensive tour of Italy, Egypt and the Holy Land.
The deceased bosom friend and companion for many years was S. Cohen of this city. They had been as true to each other as brothers. Every day and evening they met, if only for a half hour's conversation. On Monday night the deceased was in the store of Mr. Cohen talking with him about plans for making another trip to Europe in May next to see his three sisters. In 1895 he went to Europe and was joined by Mr. and Mrs. Cohen. In 1889 he and Mr. Cohen made another trip.
Mr. Ahlborn's career shows the effect of industry and ambition. He came here poor but his traits of character and his energy were such that he soon became well known in the business community.
The funeral services will be held at the home of his niece, Mrs. Frank Bauer, 144 Northampton street, at 10:30 on Thursday morning. The remains will be taken to Philadelphia on the 1:05 Lehigh Valley train, where they will be incinerated. Lodge 61, F. and A. M., will have charge.

The will of the late Charles Ahlborn of this city was probated yesterday. To his brother, Henry Ahlborn of Brooklyn N. Y., he gives $3,000; to his sister, Georgie Ahlborn of Schney, Bavaria, Germany, he leaves $2,000; to his niece, Elsie Bauer of this city, $3,000; to Carl Goerlick of Newark, N. J., $1,000, and the same amount to his sister, Albertine Ahlborn of Schney, Bavaria, Germany. The decedent also bequeaths to his two nieces, Fritz Volkhardt and Aurelia Wittich, both of Germany, each $500; to his sisters Aurelia Gaertner of Germany and Sophia Klienert and Laura Hilpert of Newark, N. J., $100 each. The remainder of the estate is left to the deceased's nephew, Maurice C. C. Gaertner of this city.
A codicil is attached to the will which directs that $5,000 be given to Kaethl Fenewein of Germany
Theodore Reinfeld and Maurice C. C. Gaertner are named as executors and the witnesses were Luke French and Frank Bauer. The estate is valued at $25,000.
