Orlo H. Polenz, 82, of Eau Claire, died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2005, at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire surrounded by his family. He was born on May 12, 1922, the son of Frederick and Hilda (Stager) Polenz in Osseo, Wis.

He grew up in Golden Valley, Wis., on his father’s farm. Orlo moved to Eau Claire when he was eight years old and attended school. He married Avis Stanton on Dec. 6, 1941, at Bethesda Lutheran Brethren Church in Eau Claire. Together they had two sons, Orin and Alan. He worked for 31 years at G & K in route sales. Prior to working at G & K, Orlo worked at Johnson Motors for many years. Orlo bowled in Eau Claire for 59 years at both State Lanes and Wagners Lanes. He was instrumental in starting the junior bowling program in Eau Claire. For many years, Orlo served on the board of directors for the State of Wisconsin Junior Bowling Association. He was inducted to ECMBA Hall of Fame. Orlo was an avid fisherman and also loved taking care of his flowers. He was known to all as “dad” and loved chewing his big cigar.

Orlo leaves behind his loving wife of 63 years, Avis, of Eau Claire; two sons, Orin “Mouse” Polenz of Eau Claire and Alan (Kristine) Polenz of Eau Claire; seven grandchildren, Robert, Jennifer, AnnMarie, Charles (Andrea) Polenz, all of Eau Claire, Kenneth (Judith Ulry) Anderson, Kyle (Stephanie) Polenz of Chippewa Falls and Amy Polenz of Eau Claire; three great-grandchildren, Serena and Mykal Polenz of Chippewa Falls and Jacob Russell of Waukesha, Wis.; and sister-in-law, Lorraine Stanton of Eau Claire.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Leonard; and daughter-in-law, Virginia Polenz.

Funeral services for Orlo will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 7, 2005, at Fuller-Speckien Funeral Home, Eau Claire. Visitation will be Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. and one hour prior to the time of services all at the funeral home. Interment will follow the service at Lakeview Cemetery, Eau Claire.
