Elwyn Johnson, 87, 415 Parkview Drive, life-long area resident and retired tobacco buyer, died Tuesday night, Oct. 12 in University Hospitals, Madison, after a long illness.
He was born May 26, 1885 in Koshkonong, the son of Theodore and Mary Johnson. He attended Edgerton Schools and was graduated from Beloit Business College. On November 19, 1912 he was married to Ethel McDowell of Janesville.
Mr. Johnson was a tobacco buyer for Scotten Dillon, Janesville, for 45 years, and was in the real estate business for a number of years following his retirement in 1962.
He served as village assessor from 1961 to 1963 and concluded 30 years as a director of the Milton Cemetery Assoc. last spring. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Edgerton, the Milton Congregational Church, and served on the Milton graded school board for many years.
Surviving are his wife; three sons, Harvey, Milton; Robert of Plymouth and Roger of Orlando, Florida; one daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Skelly, Milton; 17 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15 in the Congregational Church, the Rev. Vincent Albrecht, officiating. Burial will be in the Milton Cemetery.
