Major Connor Whitesides was a Civil War causality. He was a private in Company B, 28th North Carolina Infantry Regiment. He was discharged due to disability. He died at his home in Gaston County on April 22, 1962, perhaps from the disability. He was the first of three sons of Major and Elizabeth Whitesides to die in the war.
