When Aunt Jenny, the daughter of Nicolina Terranova Calamia, journeyed back to Sicily on her own, she did so in order to bring back her cousin, Amelia Maria Terranova (1906-1956) to the United States for the purpose of uniting with her brother, Giacomo ( Jack) Calamia (June 13, 1892 - March 6, 1924) in an arranged marriage. Amalia was 15 years old on her wedding day. But the marriage was short-lived as Giacomo died at the young age of 32, leaving behind Amelia and two daughters, Nicolina Calamia Benedetto and Giovanna Calamia Lopez. Later, perhaps out of necessity for the time, Amelia married a widower, Mr. Guadagnano, who had two sons, Joseph and Phil. The boys were raised as first cousins to the Marchese family and were good friends of my grandfather, Joseph Marchese, the father of my mom. This beautiful photo shows Giacomo Calamia and his young cousin, Amelia Terranova Calamia, on their wedding day, April 1st, 1921.
