Lettie Hays

Lettie Hays was born on October 18, 1915, the daughter of G.W. and Attie Amburgey Vance. She passed from this life on November 22, 2008, making her stay on earth ninety-three years, one month and four days. At a young age, Lettie met and married Clark Hays. To this union seven children were born: Rudine Hays (deceased after her death), Navon and husband, R.B. Singleton, Shelby and wife, Judy Hays, Mildred Sue and husband, Johnny Childers, Larry and wife, Debbie Hays, Patricia and husband, Robert Gentry, and Verie Gibson. In addition to her children, Lettie is survived by her brothers and sisters: John D. Vance, Alpha Banks, Eskie Mullins, Bill Vance, Grada Hicks and Eldred Vance. She is also survived by fourteen grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren.Lettie was preceded in death by her husband, Clark Hays.Lettie and Clark worked hard to make a home and to provide for their family. They raised big gardens and always had hogs, cows and horses on their farm. They took special pride in the harvest from the garden and fields of their home place. God blessed them to labor together for many years. However, the Lord called Clark home in 2001 and Lettie's health began to fail. She spent the last few years in the Knott County Nursing Home, sharing a room with her sister, Eskie. It was always a pleasure to visit this special room, she greeted everyone with a smile and lots of love. She would also request some singing and prayer before her visitors departed. As the singing and prayer request was fulfilled, tears would fill her eyes and run down her face. She would rejoice in the spirit of the Lord. Lettie and Clark joined the Happy Home Church, by letter from the Little Zion Church in 1973, and remained faithful members for the rest of their days on earth. Even when she was sick, she still wanted to go to church. Brother Clark was a minister and she was a very faithful companion, providing support for his travels and efforts to preach the gospel.Lettie's happiest times were spent with her family. She loved to have her family around her and to care for them. She was a beautiful person and an "old time mother", a great example of a Christian mother. On November 22, 2008, God called her home to rest as a "flower" in His garden of Heavenly peace. She left lots of sorrow and a great void in the lives of her children, grandchildren and family. However, as the angels rejoiced, she entered into her Heavenly rest. She is "safe at home" with God.
