Henry Edwin Smith, retired farmer, Civil War Veteran, and father of Robert J. Smith, associate judge of this county, passed away at his home at Hartleton, on Tuesday evening at 6:40 o'clock, following an illness of four weeks. He suffered from complications which developed from old age.
Born in Hartley Township, on July 23, 1842, he was the son of Jacob and Sarah Smith deceased. His wife preceded him in death several years ago and since then he has lived with his son, Robert J. Smith.
He was a member of the Hartleton Presbyterian Church and served his country in the Civil War. He was one of the few remaining veterans of the war which remain in this county.
The deceased is survived by three children: Mrs. Annie S. Goodman, Sunbury; Ray M. Smith, Bellevue, Ohio; and Robert J. Smith of Hartley Township. The deceased was a member of the Presbyterian Church at Hartleton.
