Nora was the last surviving child of William and Charity Richardson Snoots, and the widow of Lewis Palen, who died in 1941. She was survived by her son William, six grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Jeanette Vandegriff, who was killed in an auto accident in the 1960s.
Nora grew up in Norwich, Ohio. She attended Shorter College in Georgia and after marrying Lewis, a New York native, they resided in Rome, Georgia many years. Lewis was involved in the apple orchard business, as were Nora's brother Addison Snoots and brother-in-law John Miller (husband of Esther Snoots), who all lived near each other in Georgia.
When they were older, Nora and Lewis moved to Michigan, probably to be close to their son, who lived in Detroit. After Lewis died, Nora moved back to her native Ohio. Her next door neighbor was her nephew Charles Wilson.
Nora enjoyed good health her whole life, and lived independently until age 100, when she moved to a nursing home due to age. She was a much loved member of her family, and was always having them over to visit.
Nora was a member of the Norwich United Methodist Church, Norwich, Ohio.
She lived the longest life in the whole Snoots family. Of her seven siblings, four lived past 90: Lyman age 91, Esther Miller age 98, Alice Wilson age 93 and Addison age 96.
