Clyde Thompson, 77, of Houghton, passed away at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, January 19, 2013 at the Park Place Long Term Care Unit in Mount Pleasant.

Born June 16, 1935 in Unionville, Missouri, the son of Fredric C. and Ruth E. (Choate) Thompson. On May 12, 1956 at St. James the Less Catholic Church in St. Paul, Iowa, he married Florence Menke.

Survivors include his wife Florence of Houghton, three sons, Steven (wife Deb) Thompson of West Point, Iowa, Gary (wife Gale) Thompson of Houghton, Iowa and Darrell (special friend Carrie) Thompson of Houghton, Iowa; one daughter Lora (husband Les) Roth of Donnellson, Iowa; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, four sisters Lucille Garmoe of Montrose, Iowa, Louise Carr of Rock Island, Illinois, Nellie Pohlpeter of Fort Madison, Iowa, and Shirley Burroughs of Davenport, Iowa. Two brothers Joe (Jackie) Thompson of Fort Madison, Iowa, Fred (Joann) Thompson of Mt. Hamill, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son Richard "Rick" Thompson on October 4, 1983, two brothers Hubert,in infancy, and Norman Thompson.

Clyde was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Houghton. He was the owner and operator of Thompson Farm Supply near Houghton for 22 years. He was an Honorary Life member of the Houghton Knights of Columbus Council #3905. He served on the Marquette School Board and the Marquette Foundation and was also a member of the Holy Name Society in Houghton. He enjoyed playing cards and dominos. Clyde made rosaries to be sent to missions. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He especially enjoyed giving his grandchildren rides on the "green machine."

Friends may call after 2:00 p.m. Monday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Houghton where there will be a Knights of Columbus rosary at 3:00 p.m. and a Christian wake service at 7:00 p.m. at the church. The family will meet with friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the church.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Houghton with Father Gary Beckman as celebrant. Burial will be in the St. John's Church Cemetery in Houghton.
