Neva Delores Barkley, 91 year old Council Hill resident, passed away on Sunday, January 20, 2013 in Muskogee. Delores was born Wednesday, February 25, 1921 to Deward and Vada (Gable) Watson in Hanna, Oklahoma. She attended school at Iron Post and lived in many different places growing up as her father moved around serving the Bristow area as a Pastor. Delores went to work in Hominy, Oklahoma as a salesman selling women's clothing. In August of 1942, she married the love of her life Lance Barkley in Bristow, Oklahoma. Delores then moved to California where she worked in the war industry. After the war she moved to Stroud, Oklahoma where she became a homemaker. In 1953 she moved to Council Hill where her family farmed and ranched. Delores spent a few years in Tulsa before moving back to Council Hill in the late 1960's. She loved to read the bible, take long walks, spend time in her garden, serve others and quilt. Delores attended the Assembly of God in Boynton, Oklahoma. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Lance who passed away Sunday, December 28, 1997; sister Avis Bradford and her husband, Brad Bradford; and her sister-in-law, Joy Watson.
