Felix Burgess who died at his home in this city, Nov. 7th, was a native of Staffordshire, England, where he was born Oct. 16, 1820. At the age of 27 he emigrated to America, and the then tedious modes of travel reached Wisconsin territory in the year 1847. He located near the present village of Fayette, and at once began the labor of making a farm from the plains and woods about him. By untiring industry, judicious management and wise economy, he succeeded beyond the average of his competitors. In 1850 he went to California, and was absent a few years, with which exception his home has been in this vicinity for 47 years. He took intelligent interest in the affairs of his community, state and adopted country, and commanded the esteem of a large circle of acquaintances, among whom he was known as an exemplary citizen and honorable man. He was a member of the Mineral Point Lodge F.&A.M. for many years, and by his conduct through life exemplified the best principles of that order. About three years ago Mr. Burgess left his farm home, and with his family, established his residence in this city. Last spring he was elected alderman for the 4th ward, and held that office at the time of his death.
Deceased was buried with masonic rites in the Fayette cemetery on the 10th inst. The common council of the city, headed by Mayor Snow, and a strong delegation of masonic brethern, attended the funeral, notwithstanding severely inclement weather.
