Civil War Union Soldier. He was enrolled in the 6th New Jersey Volunteer Infantry on August 7, 1861, and was mustered in as a Corporal in Company A on August 19, 1861. He was wounded in the left lung at the Battle of Gettysburg when his regiment supported 40th New York Infantry and the 4th Maine Infantry near Devil's Den (July 2, 1863). He served through the summer of 1864, then was honorably discharged at the expiration of his enlistment on August 31, 1864.
