Clarence Edward Trapp, age 72, pioneer banker and farmer of Marion died July 12 at Mercy Hospital in Valley City. He had been a patient there for two weeks following a stroke on June 28.
Funeral services were held July 15 in the United Methodist Church of Marion. The Rev. Wesley Hart officiated. Interment was in the Marion Cemetery. Daly-Peterson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Leonard Neevel was organist and Mrs. Keith Leistikow was soloist for the service.
Active pallbearers were: Merlin Trapp, Ronald Trapp, Harvey Trapp, Daniel Trapp, Davie Trapp, Donald Liebing, Eugene Youngman, and Leslie Krenz.
Honorary pallbearers were: Arthur Knudsen, Albert Knudsen, Leonard Arduser, Norman Winkelman, Connie Arduser, Harold Johnston, Clarence Boom, George Boom, Arthur Leistikow and Donald Korn.
He was born January 6, 1900 at Milbank, S.D., son of the late, Mr. and Mrs. Dilman C. Trapp. When he was three years old his parents moved three miles south of Marion where they homesteaded. He attended the Marion schools – graduating from Marion High School with the class of 1918. He then enrolled in the Dakota Business College at Fargo and graduated from there in 1920. He entered the employment of the State Bank of Oriska and later at the Marion State Bank.
He was married May 21, 1922 at Moorhead, Minn., to Susan Fritch. They established their home at Marion. Mr. Trapp remained with the bank until 1928 when they moved to a farm south of Marion. They moved to Marion in 1944 but continued farming until 1950. He again entered the service of the State Bank of Marion as assistant cashier. He retired from the bank on March 1, 1965.
Mr. Trapp was very active in all community affairs. He was committeeman for many years of the A.S.C.S., and was also the assessor for Marion and treasurer of the United Methodist Church of Marion.
He is survived by his wife, Susan; two daughters; Mrs. W. D. (Shirley) Dixon of Watford City, N.D., and Mrs. Eugene (Betty) Knudsen of Marion; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; one sister; Mrs. Leo (Cora) Draheim of Marion and one brother: Acy Trapp of Marion.
