Mrs. Alban worked as a switch board operator for the Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company in Leesburg, Va after graduating high school and eventually retired in 1970 to be a full time mother and wife. After her husbands death in 1995 she worked for several years as a volunteer at the Frederick County Senior Citizens facility in the kitchen. She was especially fond of her time spent there and the close friendships she developed. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, being outdoors and reading. Mrs. Alban was an avid reader sometimes reading up to three novels at once.
Shirley had a big heart and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Surviving in addition to her son, Donald Alban Jr. is his wife Melissa Penrose Alban and dear friend Christine Cooper. She is also survived by five nephews.
