She was born 4 Sept 1876, on a farm east of Knoxville, the daughter of Edward Johnston and Harriet (Wilson) Young. She attended Sunnnyside School and also attended St. Mary's School for Girls at Knoxville and was graduated from Brown's Business College. She was married 16 May 1894 to Roy A Straub. He died in 1938. Following her marriage she resided in Galesburg, except for four years in Peoria.
She was a member of Central Congregational Church for more than 50 years and had served as president of the Woman's Association. She was a member for 52 years of Sincerity Lodge No. 6, auxiliary of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen, and had served as a grand lodge officer. She was also a 50-year member of Violet Chapter No. 235, Order of Eastern Star, in which she had served several years as secretary, the Knox County Republican Women's Club, and had taken an active interest in politics.
Surviving are a son, Clarence Young Straub of Galesburg; a daughter, Mrs. Karl (Frances) McLain of Long Beach, California; two brothers, George Young of Galesburg and Elmer Young of Albuquerque, NM, four grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at Hinchliff and Pearson Funeral Chapel, where Eastern Star services were conducted. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery, Galesburg.
