Assistant Trainmaster of "Q" Worked for Railroad 54 Years.

Roy a Straub, 65, assistant trainmaster of the C B & Q Railroad here, who had worked 54 years for the Burlington since he became a call boy at the age of eleven, died at 3:45 am today, 23 June 1938, in his home, 1337 West Losey Street, Galesburg, IL. He had been ill since March 15, when he relinquished his duties. Mr. Straub was treated at a hospital shortly after he quit work, and had been bedfast at his home since.

Roy Albert Straub was born 8 Mar 1873 in Fowler, IL, the son of Albert B and Elizabeth Weidenhammer Straub, one of nine children in the family. Almost all his life, with the exception of a few years spent in Peoria, was passed in Galesburg. Mr. Straub became a call boy for the railroad as a young lad, and worked up in the ranks in the succeeding years to the position of assistant trainmaster. For the past several years, he was in charge of train movements at the passenger depot, and was a familiar figure to many.
Mr. Straub was a member of Central Congregational Church. He was active in the Masonic Fraternity, having attained the 32nd degree 20 years ago. He was affiliated with Alpha Lodge No. 155, the Royal Arch Chapter, Galesburg Commandery of Knights Templar, Peoria Consistory and Violet Chapter No. 235, O E S. In railroad circles he belonged to Galesburg Lodge No. 24, B. of R. I. and the Burlington Veterans Association.

On 16 May 1894, he married Florence Ellen Young of Knoxville, who survives with a daughter, Mrs. Karl (Frances) McClain, and a son, Clarence Young Straub, three granddaughters, Betty McLain Pruett, Marjorie McLain, and Carol E Straub; one grandson, Richard McLain, and one great-grandson, Billy Pruett. He was preceded in death in his family by a brother, Edward J Straub, and a sister, Mrs. Dorothy Ellsworth. Surviving brothers and sisters are Mrs. L J Burke, Mrs. Martha Stoner, P D Straub and Arthur B Straub of Galesburg, William Straub of Cameron, and John Straub of Salem, Oregon.

Funeral services were held at Central Congregational Church, the Rev. John H Westbrook officiating. Alpha Lodge of Masons also conducted rites. Interment was in Memorial Park. Horton, Hinchliff, and Wilson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
