SUNSET, UTAH
Melba West Wilcock

On January 9, 2013, our most kind, gentle and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away peacefully at home. She was 85.

Melba was born September 23, 1927 in Marysvale, Piute, Utah to James Earl West and Annie Hazel Minchey. She was the fourth daughter of James Earl West and Annie Hazel Minchey West in a family of five girls. Melba attended school in Marysvale and graduated from Marysvale High School in 1945.

There was a young World War II veteran. Wayne Lavar Wilcock just home from War, who caught her eye. Wayne had dated Melba's older sisters, but decided she was the one. They were married on September 27, 1946 in Marysvale and were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on June 26, 1964. Wayne passed away on November 7, 2002.

Their first daughter, Billie Carol was born while they lived in Marysvale, UT. Following Billie's birth, the young family moved to Roy, Utah and later purchased their current home in Sunset, Utah. Angela Merrie, Buddy Wayne and Wayde Lavar joined the family while in Sunset.

Melba was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held various positions of responsibility. She had an abiding and unwavering testimony of her Savior and of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

She was a mostly stay at home mom during her life and was proud to be a mother, but did work outside of the home after her children were raised.

Melba leaves behind an incredible legacy of testimony, hard work, love, integrity, and unparalleled kindness.

She is survived by Buddy Wayne Wilcock of Sunset, Utah; Wayde (Cathy) Lavar Wilcock of Layton, Utah; son-in-law David Lee Curtis of Paradise, Utah; son-in-law Jimmie McDonald of Loyalton, California; sister Dorothy Peterson of Marysville, California; 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Melba was preceded in death by her husband Wayne, daughter Billie Carol Curtis, daughter Angela Merrie McDonald, her parents, sisters, Della Holgate, Fawn Clift and Verda Thiede.
