On Sunday, December 30, 2012, John passed away peacefully at his home in Sacramento, California two weeks short of his 96th birthday. Born in Salt Lake City, Utah on January 13, 1917, he was raised with seven siblings by his doctor father, John Francis Sharp and mother, Luella Ferrin Sharp.
He was preceded in death by all of his seven siblings and his beloved wife, Betsy and wonderful daughter, Pamela Wilson.
He is survived by his daughter, Sandra Zuckerman and son, John Sharp; daughter-in-law, Judy Sharp and sons-in-law, Tom Wilson and Harry Zuckerman. His surviving grandchildren are John Sharp Jr., Erin Sharp, Rebecca Wilson, Hannah, Nathanial, Nicholas Sharp and great-grandson, Steven.
John and Betsy were married for forty-six years and as a military family, postings included Alabama, New York, Colorado, and California with a special three year assignment to the US embassy in Rome, Italy as a military attache.
John received a BA in Business Administration from the University of Utah immediately joining the Army Air Corp Flying Cadet program. He retired in 1966 after twenty-seven years in the US Air Force with the rank of Colonel having been a veteran of WW II, Korea, and Viet Nam.
Post retirement he continued to fly charter clients and worked various management positions where his leadership and decision-making skills were valued. His love of flying was infectious and with his own plane he loved nothing better than taking family and friends flying in search of adventure and a flat place to land.
Visitation Monday, January 14th, 4-7 PM at Mt. Vernon Memorial Park, 8201 Greenback Lane, Fair Oaks with the funeral service there Tuesday, January 15th at 10:00 AM.
Interment will be January 16th at 1:00 PM, next to his wife Betsy, at the San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery, Gustine, California.
