William Hugh "Bill" Monroe
born: 6 Jun 1885 in Illinois first child of James McLean Monroe & Margaret "Maggie" McMaster.He is nameed for his paternal uncle, William and his paternal grandfather, Hugh. Grew up in Chicago, moved to Salt Lake City Utah as a teen with family. First job was as a machinist in a copper mill in Garfield, Utah. Moved with his Mother & siblings to Eureka, Humboldt, CA while in his 30s. He worked as a machinist for Hammon Engine Works in Eureka. Later he & his brothers moved to Clear Lake, Skagit, WA & bought a wee house for their mother, Maggie. While there , he worked in Sedro-Woolley at Skagit Steel Ironworks. Before 1935, he moved to Bremerton, Kitsap, WA & worked in the Naval Shipyards as a deckfitter on ships. In his late 40s he moved to Los Angeles CA, making his living as a woodworker. He possibly married Alma Amelia Smith. He died in Los Angeles, CA on 29 Feb, 1948.
