EDMESTON — Herb Card of Edmeston went home to the Lord on Sunday, Sept. 19, 2004.

He was born April 5, 1919, in New Lisbon, the son of Rene and Catherine (Carlton) Card.

Herb was a member of the Second Baptist Church, Edmeston, where he also had previously served as Deacon.

During World War II he served in the 179th Artillery under the command of General Patton.

Herb was a participant in life, serving his community as a 4-H leader, as a mason in the Phoebus Lodge No. 82 and the Trinity Eastern Star in New Berlin, the Wharton Valley American Legion Post No. 1311, and the Edmeston Grange No. 991. He retired from Kraft Foods in New Berlin more than 30 years ago.

Traditionally, Herb provided cut flowers from his garden each Sunday to the Second Baptist Church. He also enlisted the help of his grandchildren to aid him in the tending of his and his wife, Rena's garden, planting hundreds of gladiolas.

Herb is survived by his daughters-in-law, Linda Price and Carol Lawrence; his grandchildren, Regina Card, Fawn Mumbulo, Melissa Frisbee and Chad Card; six great-grandchildren; his brother and spouse, Warren and Myrtle Card; his uncle, Vivian Card; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

His wife, Rena Card; his son, Ernest Card; and his special friend, Theda Gibson, predeceased him.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 27, 2004, at the Second Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jay Noll officiating. Herb's family will be receiving friends from 10 until 11 a.m. prior to the service.

Donations may be made in Herb's memory to the Second Baptist Church or the Phoebus Lodge No. 82.

Arrangements are by Houk-Johnston-Terry Funeral Home, Edmeston.

Condolences may also be sent to the family from the funeral home website at hjtfuneralhome.com.
