OLD TABLETS ARE RESTORED
Grave of Colonel and Mrs. George Read at Yorktwon Again Plainly Marked.
Two old memorial tablet in Virginia, and which were found during the excavation of Buckner street, in Yorktown several months ago, have just been restored and erected on new foundations in the churchyard at Yorktown.
The tablets orginally marked the graves of Colonel George Read and his wife, Elizabeth Marteau Read, and have been restored at the expense of their lineal descendants, Mrs. Letitia Pate Evans, by the firm of Lawon & Newton, monument builders of Norfolk.
The tablets are inscribed as follows:
"Here lyeth intered Col. George Read, Esqr., who was born ye 25th day October in ye years of Our Lord 1608, and deceased October, 1674, he being in the 66th yr of his age."
"Here lyeth intered Elizabeth Martiau, deceased wife of George Read, day October in ye years of Our Lord Esqr., was born in ye years of our being in ye 71st years fo her age."
