She was born February 26, 1922 in Catawba County to the late George E. Whitener and Minnie Etta Barger Whitener. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband James H. Nance; four brothers and their wives: Cecil and Gladys Whitener, Earl and Beulah Whitener, Ralph and Alise Whitener, Paul and Margaret Whitener; and a nephew, Mark Whitener, son of Paul Whitener.
She was a charter member of Lakeview Baptist Church. Inez was a bright spot wherever she was and shared her positive attitude with everyone she met.
The funeral service will be held on Monday, January 7, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel at Bass-Smith Funeral Home in Hickory with the Rev. Jerry Hurley officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
