Later he rejoined the Union war effort, being enrolled in the 37th New Jersey Volunteer Infantry on June 2, 1864, and being mustered in as a Private in Company I on June 23, 1864. He served in his regiment's fatigue and garrison duty in Virginia and was honorably mustered out when his enlistment expired on October 1, 1864.
