Sander, a two year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Stoppel, near Wilson, Kansas, was killed between that place and Black Wolfe [sic] at 3 o'clock, Tuesday afternoon, by an engine on the U. P. railway. Mr. Stoppel's farm is crossed by the track, and while the father had gone into the field to sow some wheat, the child started to follow him, and while crossing the track, was caught by the engine, which came along at full speed. Drs. Pinney and Lillie were at once sent for, but only arrived in time to pronounce the injuries fatal. The child died about 8 o'clock. His remains were taken to the Evangelical Lutheran cemetery near Wilson, where funeral services were conducted by Rev. J. G. F. Kleinhans.

NOTE: Interment was originally at Immanuel (Coal Creek) Lutheran Church, Plymouth Township, Russell County, Kansas

Wilson Cemetery records show that Sander and Alexander were buried by their mother Amelia Katharina "Katie" Rieb Stoppel (one on each side). They were moved to the Wilson City Cemetery when Katie was buried. Those three are interred into Lot 265E.
