Virginia S. McClure, 83, of Hayesville died Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at her residence. She was a native of Towns County, GA, but had lived in Clay County most of her life. She was a retired seamstress in the textile industry and was a member of the Myers Chapel United Methodist Church, but attended Pilgrim Baptist Church. Her hobbies included quilting, cooking, and working in her flower garden.
She was the daughter of the late E.B. and Bertha Tathum Swanson and the wife of the late Norman "Jay" McClure, who died Sept. 3, 2001. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Horace and Harold Swanson; and a daughter-in law, Angela Gail McClure.
Surviving are three daughters, Sandra Head and husband, Danny of Murphy, Susie Rogers and husband, Matt of Hayesville, and Sarah Brown and husband, Jim of Salisbury, NC; three sons, Herbert W. McClure and wife, Pam of Zebulon, NC, and Michael Norman McClure and Dwight Scott McClure and wife, Teresa all of Hayesville; a sister, Charlotte Garrett of Hiawassee, GA; and 11 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, December 22, 2012 in the Chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville with the Rev. Danny Hollifield officiating. Interment will be in Myers Chapel Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tanner Byers, Scott and Tyler McClure, John Wise, Clay Woody, and Chris West. Honorary pallbearers will be Dennis and Perry Nichols, and Harold and Carroll McClure. The family will receive friends from 12-1:45 Saturday afternoon at the Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville prior to the services.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in memory of Virginia S. McClure to the Myers Chapel Cemetery Fund, c/o Phyllis Barnard, 605 Barnard Road, Hayesville, NC 28904.
