Wayne Scott B. Hannah, 86, of De Smet died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2009.

His funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at United Church of Christ in De Smet with the Rev. James Truesdell officiating.

Burial will be in De Smet Cemetery.

Visitation hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Osthus Funeral Home in De Smet.

Wayne B. Hannah was born March 5, 1922, to Chauncey and Emma (Wurl) Hannah at Manchester. He grew up on a farm southwest of De Smet. He attended Widman School District 23. Once a year they came to De Smet for Old Settlers Day.

He attended De Smet High School, living in a rental house in town and going home on weekends. He graduated in 1940 and returned to the farm.

He entered the Marine Corps. in 1943, earning the rank of staff sergeant. He served in World War II and was called back to duty during the Korean War. He received numerous medals and awards. He was discharged in 1952. He returned to farming and ranching.

He married Lorraine Smith Dec. 6, 1963. They built a home in De Smet. She died in 1997.

He loved to read books and was very interested in history.

He was preceded in death by his wife, four brothers and seven sisters.
