Lorna F. Buss, 78, of Sioux City died Monday, May 28, 2001, at a Sioux City hospital. Services were held at Calvary Lutheran Church with the Rev. Glen Rachuy officiating. Burial followed with graveside services in Fairfield Cemetery, Rock Branch, Iowa, under direction of the Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel. Mrs. Buss was born February 21, 1923, near Pierson, Iowa, the daughter of William and Amelia (Rock) Althaus. She graduated from Grand Meadow School in 1940. She graduated from Westmar College with a teaching certificate in 1942. She taught primary school in Anthon-Oto for three years. She married Fred Buss December 18, 1943, in Correctionville, Iowa. She was a homemaker. The couple moved to Sioux City in 1953. She was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church and a church circle. She enjoyed gardening, sewing and oil painting. Many of her paintings have been displayed in local exhibitions. Survivors include a son, Michael; three daughters, Marjean Altemeier, Mary Buss Carroll and Betsy Buss (Mrs. Mark Chaffin); six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother and his wife, William (Marlene) Althaus of Kenyon, Minnesota; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Althaus of Hinton, Iowa, and Edna Anderson of Washington; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, a son, Daniel; and two brothers, Herbert and Bruce Althaus. Pallbearers will be Larry and Mike Buss, Mark Chaffin, Bill Althaus and David Brancheau.
