Funeral service for Leon Jackson, 78, of Opelika is 10:00a.m. Saturday, January 5, 2013 at Opelika First Baptist Church. Dr. Mike King is officiating. Burial will be held at 3:00p.m. in Crestwood Cemetery, Gadsden, AL. Visitation is Friday from 5-7 p.m. at Jeffcoat-Trant Funeral Home. Mr. Jackson was born May 9, 1934 in Altoona, AL. He passed away January 1, 2013 at East Alabama Medical Center. He had been a resident of Opelika for the past 48 years. He was retired from Uniroyal, Inc with over 30 years service. Leon was an active member of the Opelika First Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and taught Pre-School Sunday School. He was also a long time active member of the Opelika Lions Club. Leon was an avid football fan. He is survived by his wife Belvajean Jackson of Opelika; daughter, Vicky (Andy) Adams of Moreland, GA; son, Jeff (Mabel) Jackson of Athens, GA; 4 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; two sisters, Dorothy Garrard of Arab, AL, Velma Harvey of Oneonta, AL; two brothers, Ray Jackson of Oneonta, AL, and Jerry Jackson of Blountsville, AL. The family suggests, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Opelika First Baptist Church. Jeffcoat-Trant Funeral Home & Crematory is directing.
