WWII Veteran, Alvie I. Findlow 89, of Granite City passed away on Monday, December 31, 2012 at Anderson Hospital with his family by his side. Alvie was born on September 4, 1923 in Chicago, IL.
He was a long time driver for Semi-Peerless Linen Supply. He was a member of Glenview Assembly of God Church in Granite City. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during WW II where he earned the American Theater Service Medal, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and a Victory Medal. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and enjoyed spending time with his family.
He is survived by and will be missed by his wife; Wanda (Adams) Findlow; son, Tom & (Rosemarie) Findlow of Moro, IL; daughters, Lynnea & (William) Carr of Granite City, Ellen & (William) Cross of Riverton, IL; 7 grandchildren, Dustin & (Diane) Rieger, Stacey & (David) Parish, Kristina & (Kody) Halcom, Jaime & (Rory) Isaac, Tiffany & (Jeremy) Hendricks, Michelle & (Clinton) Watkins, Terri Jo & (Aaron) Clayton; 2 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; James Walter Sr., & Jessie (McGinnis) Findlow; brother, James Findlow; sister, Wanda Talas.
Friends may call on Thursday, January 3, 2013 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City. In celebration of his life service will be held on Friday, January 4, 2013 at 12:00 p.m. at Glenview Assembly of God Church, 3000 Maryville Road in Granite City with Pastor Tim O'Keefe officiating. Burial will be at St. John Cemetery on Maryville Road in Granite City with military rites.
Memorials are suggested to the church.
