Mattie Rowell Young, 80, of Ben Hill County, Georgia, died Monday, December 13, 2021, at her son's residence in Carrollton, Georgia.
Funeral services were held 11 AM, Wednesday, December 15, 2021, at New Bethel Holiness Baptist Church in Ben Hill County, with the Rev. Kevin Vickers and the Rev. Aaron Fuller officiating. Interment followed in New Hope Cemetery, Coffee County, Georgia.
Mrs. Young was born January 3, 1941, in Coffee County, Georgia, to the late Waldo & Jessie Mae Goff Rowell. She worked as an inspector for Gold Kist and Southern Roasted Nuts. She also worked for Shaw Industries. Mrs. Young enjoyed reading, especially her Bible. She liked to crochet and quilt as well. She made a point to talk with her sister Vera Mae every night. Mrs. Young was a member of New Bethel Holiness Baptist Church.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Robert & Kristi Young of Carrollton; two granddaughters, Julia Brogdon and Kristin Young; sisters and their spouses: Vera Mae & Herman Smith of Alma, Lene Rowell of Douglas, Lizzy & Carroll Young of Wray, and Jessie Lee & Hershell Jones of Douglas. A host of nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clinton Young; and three sisters: Melba Grace Rowell, Peggy Bess, and Deborah Conner.
