Two Die In Auto Crash

Miss Novella Weaver and J.M. Hurlbut Are Victims
A motor car collision Saturday night at Tenth and California avenues caused fatal injuries to two of the four persons involved in the crash.

Miss Novella Weaver, 21-year-old daughter of Mrs. Mary Weaver, 1330 North Polk, and Joseph M. Hurlbut, 31, mechanic for the J.A. Tobin construction Compant, near Grantville, died in Christ's hospital Sunday morning from skull fractures received when a Ford car in which they were riding collided with a Buick car driven by Warren Evans, Negro, of 830 Golden avenue. Neither Miss Weaver nor Hurlbut recovered consciousness after the collision. Dr. H.L. Clark, county coroner, today called a coroner's jury to investigate the collision but the jury will not begin its investigation until tomorrow or Wednesday.

Miss Weaver and Hurlbut were riding in the rumble seat of a Ford car driven by J.J. Smart, crane operator for the Tobin Construction Company. The Ford was going north of California avenue. The Negro's car was going east on Tenth. Both cars were badly wrecked. Miss Weaver and Hurlbut were taken to Christ's hospital in ambulances from Penwell's and Shellabarger's undertaking establishments. Hurlbut's body was sent to Shellabarger's and will be sent to Carrollton, Mo. today for burial.
Miss Weaver's body was sent to Penwell's. her funeral arrangements have not been made.

Hurlbut had been employed in highway construction work by the Tobin company on highway No. 10 between Perry and Grantville, since last July 6. His address was given as Kansas City, Mo. He is survived by his widow and two small children.
