Aaron Axtell, a retired business man of this place, died at his home on Water street Monday morning, after an illness of about three weeks. He was a lifelong resident of this place, where he was born on Nov. 18, 1847. He received his education in Perry Academy and learned the trade of harness maker of his father, Aaron Axtell, who was one of the pioneer merchants of the village. Mr. Axtell continued the trade of harness maker until a few years ago when he retired on account of poor health. He was united in marriage to Miss Sarah Welton of Waverly in 1886. Besides his wife he is survived by a brother, Charles P. Axtell of Newton, IA; also three sons, Chas. of Conrad, IA; Harold of Spokane, Wash., and Hugh Axtell of Perry. Mr. Axtell had an exceptionally fine memory and had spent much time in the study of the history of Perry. His knowledge of early history and conditioning had placed him in such a position that residents looked to him as an authority on historical events. Mr. Axtell had been able to be about the streets until about four weeks ago. The funeral was held from the late residence on Water street on Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. C. H. Dibble, pator emeritus of the Presbyterian church officating. Burial was made in Hope Cemetery.
