Katherine "Kitty" Somers, 84, of Germantown passed away peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior on December 22, 2012.

She will always be remembered for her gentle manner, ongoing smile, her organizational skills, her love of her family, and her faith.

Kitty was one of seven children born in Memphis to Carl and Olive Hines.

She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Allen Somers of Germantown; a son, Michael Speros of Memphis; a daughter, Sandra Sandouk of Cordova; three granddaughters, Kristina Hyde (Drew IV); and Alexis Powers (John) both of Boulder, CO; and Katherine Sandouk of Cordova; and grandson Spero Sandouk of Atlanta; three great-grandchildren, Drew Hyde V, Addison Hyde and Cassidy Powers all of Boulder, CO; a brother Charles Hines (Jean) and a sister Gilda Cook (Charles) both of Memphis; two stepdaughters Margaret Balogh (Scott) of Augusta, GA and Alison Somers of Beaufort, SC; two step-grandchildren - Sinclair Anderson of Atlanta, GA and Brooks Anderson of Augusta, GA, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Kitty graduated from Humes High school and attended night classes at Memphis State. Her working years were focused on the automobile industry initially with Ford Motor Co. and later Buick Motor Division of General Motors.

During the 70's she became active in golf, as a player, and administrator, and a rules official. She was the past president of the Women's Tennessee Golf Association and served on the Women's Mid-Amateur Committee of the United States Golf Association for 12 years. She was also the co-chairperson of the lady scorers for the Danny Thomas Memphis Classic, - later the FedEx St. Jude Classic, for 10 years. After retiring from her golf activities, her hobbies included gardening, sewing, and reading.
Kitty had been a three term president of the Military Officers Wives Club of Memphis.

She was a member of First Evangelical Church and with her husband, Germantown Country Club.

She will be greatly missed by her loving family, and many friends. With her passing Heaven is a better place and this world a lesser place.

The family will receive friends from 12 Noon until service time at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, December 27, at Memorial Park Funeral Home.
