About the year 1855, two sisters, Catherine and Fredricka, daughters of Frederick and Savina Butchbaker, and an older half sister, Eve, her husband, Joseph Dussell, and their three children, Mae, Clara, and Charlie, left their home in Baden, Germany to make their homes in America.

Their half sister, Eve was taken very ill, died on the way, and was buried at sea. The two sisters, their brother-in-law, and his three children continued on their way, and arrived in New York, where everything was hustle and bustle. One sister had to sit on their baggage, while the other sister and brother-in-law looked for some means of conveyance to get them on their way, and then, they had some of their baggage stolen.

They arrived in Michigan, and found places to work. The three children found homes in the Meachem family. The two sisters endured many hardships while doing chores, spinning, weaving and etc.

In 1857, Catherine was married to Julius Waterstradt, who came to America in 1854, which had taken him three months for the ocean voyage.

For a time, Fredricka made her home with them. They settled in Jefferson Township, but in a few years, moved with their two children, Dora and Mary to Marcellus Township, Cass County, and settled on a forty acre farm, where the four daughters, and two sons were born.

In 1861, Fredricka was married to Christian Leich, and they settled in Volinia Township, Cass County.

In 1865, a brother, George came from Germany and joined his two sisters in America. In 1872, he was married to Ellen Lowry, who came from Scotland to America with her parents in 1866.

In 1861, their brother Fred came to America, and in 1864 married Elizabeth Hoover.

In 1884, another brother, Chris, and his wife Sabina joined them in America.

For a time, they all lived in Cass County, near Marcellus, but later Chris and his family moved to Ohio.
